I stayed in Chemnitz for two weeks to participate in MakerResidency by Makers United. My initial plan was to invent Vegan Sushi with regional ingredients and stories with AI. After the many spontaneous changes, happenings, nice encounters, and also due to the extremely hot weather, the plan was changed.
I designed Chemnitz Furikake at NETZ-Werk Neukirchen kitchen, also hosted workshops and had an interview from mdr with creators from Japan; tea specialist Maki and potter Aki. The interview is on the tagesschau.de website.
NETZ-Werk Neukirchen had a one day popup shop in the mall in Chemnitz central and we introduce Japanese food culture. I served the Vegan Sushi there. We had interview from Freiepresse at the popup shop.
At the Makers United School days, I made more than 100 Onigiri, Japanese rice ball with school kids. I used German bread spread as a filling to make Japanese-German fusion.
For the final Makers United Fest, also due to the hot temperature, we more focused on introducing Japanese culture. I served Vegan Sushi for the first day and Onigiri for the second day.
Here is the product I developed during the residency. It's Japanese "Furikake" (topping for rice) with Chemnitz inspired ingredients. It is of course for rice like it's used in Japan but also for salad, pasta, soup and so on.
It was a really inspiring stay visiting a lot of creative spaces.
